Electrification of Lviv
March 23, 2017

On March, 23 2017 at 4.00 pm, welcome to the open lecture and presentation of the "Museum History of Electrification of Lviv."

What do we know about electricity coming to Lviv? The first electric tram, the first local electric power station, Opera Theater, street lighting and electrification of housing. It is a long way from electricity access as a luxury article to basic necessity. It is a century long project that left behind many monuments of engineering achievements in the streets of Lviv. The memories are mostly not understandable or accessible to us. A museum is able to preserve and explain them. It shall be a museum where theory of electricity can be understood through history, and significance of an absolutely everyday common thing can be evaluated.

The meeting includes two parts – a historical insight (presenting main stages of electrification of Lviv), and a discussion (focusing on discussing and collecting comments on the Museum of Electrification of Lviv. The lecture and the presentation target a wide public, specifically experts in engineering, tour guides, museum experts, and historians. It will be an opportunity to learn more about the history of electric mains in Lviv, their impact on the development of the city, and to discuss the vision of the Museum of Electrification of Lviv.

Presenters: Andriy Kryzhanivskyi, a researcher and a mastermind of the museum; Maria Kravchenko, a historian, an archivist, coordinator of the "Museum of the History of Electrification of Lviv."
