Today, on August 3 at 18:30, we invite you to the conversation with Katia Denysova, during which we will take a look behind the scenes of the curatorial work on the exhibition, and more broadly, will talk about the experiences of modernity in Ukrainian art and visual culture within the context of pan-European and global history during the first decades of the 20th century. 

4 серпня о 18:30 відбудеться лекція Вікторії Науменко про селище Вільча на Харківщині, що було створено для переселених жителів однойменного села біля Чорнобильскої АЕС. У 2014 році Вільча прийняло мешканців з Донецької та Луганської областей, а після 2022 року вдруге за своє існування перетворилось на селище-привид. Під час події поговоримо про методологічні можливості усної історії як джерела для вивчення досвіду подвійного вимушеного переміщення. 

On August 4, at 18:30, Viktoriia Naumenko will read a lecture about the Vilcha village in the Kharkiv region that was founded for evacuees from the village of the same name, near the Chornobyl NPP. In 2014, it welcomed people from occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and in 2022, for the second time in its history, it became a ghost village. During the event we will discuss the methodological potential of oral history as a source for studying the experience of double forced displacement.

On August 18, at 18:30, we invite you to the screening of the amateur’s films about the vacations at the seaside, which will take place as a part of the [unarchiving] program. We will talk about the amateur home movies, that captured the experience of a seaside vacation as a special aspect of Soviet everyday life—a few weeks away from the usual routine, filmed by the vacationers themselves.

1-7 липня у Центрі відбулась четверта літня школа для студентів Невидимого університету для України. Через метафори “кайросу” як моменту змін, “хроносу” як безперервності та “уроборосу” як циклу учасники міркували про часові структури та досвіди сприйняття часу під час війни та в післявоєнний період.

During July 1-7, Center organized the 4th summer school for the students of the Invisible University for Ukraine.  Through the metaphors of kairos as a moment of change, chronos as continuity, and ouroboros as a cycle, participants reflected on temporal structures and the experience of time during war and in the post-war period.

12-19 липня Центр долучився до співорганізації та проведення першої літньої школи, організованої Центром дослідження міжетнічних відносин у Східній Європі, яка відбулася у Кишиневі. Школа була присвячена темі різноманітності та маргінальності у просторі Чорноморського регіону, зокрема через призму історичних, культурних та економічних зв’язків в регіоні, міграційних рухів та насильницьких переміщень спільнот. 

On July 12-19th Center helped co-organize the first summer school of the Center for Interethnic Relations Research in Eastern Europe, which took place in Chișinău, Moldova. The school focused on the themes of diversity and marginality in the Black Sea region, particularly through the lens of the region’s historical, cultural, and economic ties, as well as migration patterns and forced displacements of communities. 

Колекція дружківської газети містить низку сюжетів, пов’язаних із повсякденним життям і ритуалами пострадянського міста: новорічні й професійні свята, Дні міста, ярмарки. Фіксує і нові для пострадянської дійсності явища — пікети та мітинги, приватизаційні процеси, збори акціонерів, рекламні події та акції, конкурси краси, а також сюжети соціальної проблематики (закинуті будівлі, недобудови, наркозалежність, бідність, сирітство). 

The collection of the Druzhkivka newspaper features a range of subjects related to the everyday life and rituals of a post-Soviet city: professional holidays, city days, fairs. The collection also documents phenomena new to post-Soviet reality—protests and rallies, openings of banks, promotional events and campaigns, beauty contests, as well as scenes depicting social issues (abandoned buildings, unfinished construction projects, drug addiction, poverty, and orphanhood).

Публікація Мартіна Роде про наукові курси літа 1904 року, що їх організували для мешканців Галичини і українців з Російської імперії. З погляду організаторів ці курси мали показати необхідність відкриття незалежного українського університету у Львові. 

An article by Martin Rohde on the academic courses held in the summer of 1904, which were organized for residents of Galicia and Ukrainians from the Russian Empire. From the organizers’ perspective, these courses were intended to demonstrate the need to establish an independent Ukrainian university in Lviv.

Результат багатолітнього проєкту Центру  — доповнене видання книги Пйотра Лукашевича “Об’єднання Митців artes (1929-1935) та інші історії львівського модернізму” у перекладі та за редакції Андрія Боярова. Ця книга впроваджує у обіг історії таких транзитних та гібридних явищ ХХ століття, як творчість групи “artes”. Дотепер вони залишаються мало використаною можливістю для осмислення культурних практик як минулого, так і сучасності. 

The result of the Center’s long-term project is an updated edition of the book by Piotr Lukaszewicz “artes Group of Artists (1929-1935) And Other Stories of Lviv Modernism” translated and edited by Andrij Bojarov. The book introduces the stories of the transit and hybrid phenomena of the XX century, such as the creative effort of the “artes” group. They have been underestimated as an opportunity to reflect upon cultural practices of the past and the present.
