On April 9, 2019, at 7 pm, there will presentation of the book by J. Abramow-Newerly "Professor Waclaw Szybalski on Lviv, Genes, Sense of Life, and Nobel Prize Winners" (Profesor Wacław Szybalski o Lwowie, genach, istocie życia i Noblistach) and a film screening "Sense of Life" ("Esencja Życia", dir. by Anna Ferens).
The book authored by a Polish prose and poetry writer Jaroslaw Abramow-Newerly entitled "Professor Waclaw Szybalski on Lviv, Genes, Sense of Life, and Nobel Prize Winners" is a story about professor Waclaw Szybalski, a scholar in the field of molecular biology and an intellectual with a broad field of interests. The book describes life story of prof. Szybalski and his family, and also shows the story of his generation, of the city of Lviv, in Poland, and in global science
The books was created due to contribution of many persons: its protagonist, prof. Waclaw Szybalski who shared every single detail of his life story, and stories of other people, both family members and many friends and colleague scientists, and also about related places and events; Jaroslaw Abramow-Newerly and his wife Wanda who conducted and recorded many interviews with prof. Szybalski, members of his family, and friends; Ms Irena Fronczek, professor’s co-worker who complemented to the memories taken down by the book author, added photographs and footnotes; and prof. Dr. hab. Ewa Łojkowska, head of prof. Waclaw Szybalski Fund who helped to publish the long awaited book.
The meeting will start with the film screening about life and activities of prof. Szybalski entitled the "Sense of Life" (directed by Anna Ferens, duration – 50 min; in the original language: Polish). After the film, a discussion is planned engaging Mrs Barbara Hunter Sandor, a daughter of the Professor; prof. Dr. hab. Ewa Łojkowska, who has been friends with Professor for many years, and member of the Board of the Prof. Waclaw Szybalski Fund; and Mr Stanislaw Kosiedowski, author and creator of the website www.lwow.com.pl.
The invited audience will include representatives of the science community from Gdansk University and Ivan Franko Lviv National University.
Presentation will be in Polish.
