Urban seminars

Seminars play a crucial part in promoting communication and the exchange of ideas with guest researchers and research fellows. Initially, the format of seminars at the Center was designed as a place to discuss ongoing research projects and connect scholars from different backgrounds. Our fellows at the residency program were often presenting their work at the seminar. In 2012, we launched a special “Urban Ukraine” seminar series to promote research on the diversity of Ukraine’s urban landscape. Special focus was placed on 20th century history and the Soviet legacies: Kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Dnipro, Mariupol, and Kyiv. This series has proven invaluable in creating opportunities to enlarge the institute’s network in Ukraine. Since 2014, the framework has broadened; the lecture series, now called Urban Seminar, emphasizes project work in-progress and an in-depth discussion format in order to promote interdisciplinary and inter-institutional communication.
