Journalist Lviv
18 April 2019
On April 18, 2019, at 6.30 pm, Katarzyna Drąg will deliver a lecture "Journalist Lviv at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries as an Integral Part of the City’s Interface".

19th century is an extremely interesting period of time when two modes of journalism clashed. Journalists were first treated as an independent professional group. Journalists were becoming an increasingly more important part of urban community. On the one hand, they were perceived with contempt, but on the other hand, they were important and appreciated in the context of higher significance of mass media hugely impacting public opinion. It is impossible to consider the dilemmas of social and political features of the turn of the century without the lens of the media. It was the arena for exchange of opinions and political views, debates on the forms of social and cultural life in the city and the entire region.

During the lecture, we shall try to find answers to such questions as: What was the peculiarity of the community of Lviv journalists? How the multinational nature of Lviv reflected on the market of the press? What were the most interesting personalities of Lviv journalism world? Which challenges did Lviv journalists face?

The lecture will be held in Polish with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian.
