From September 1, 2022 until January 31, 2023, our colleague Dr. Natalia Otrishchenko will be staying as a visiting researcher under the Fulbright Program and focusing on her research at the Sociology Faculty at Columbia University. She continues her post-doctoral project on the expertise and decision-making in urban planning.

Natalia joins the weekly SKAT seminars (Science, Knowledge, and Technology), attends the events of the Ukrainian Studies program of Harriman Institute, and works in several University libraries. In addition, she observes the life of the city that witnessed the resistance of Jane Jacobs and Robert Moses, where big capital continues facing the human agency, where very different social groups co-exist, and where climate change adaptation effort is pursued.

Dr. Natalia Otrishchenko

PhD, a researcher at the Center for Urban History. She runs her author’s research “Urban experts and changes in the cities: (Re)Formation of a professional field since the late 1970s,” in cooperation with the Center for Contemporary History in Potsdam. Her areas of academic interests include: methodology and methods of sociological research, oral history, projective methods, urban sociology, spatial and social transformations after the state socialism.
