Social anthropologist, migration researcher, and essayist. She maintains a blog on "Ukraine Moderna." She holds a PhD. in History with a specialization in ethnology. Her dissertation focused on the life trajectories and shifts in social identities of Ukrainian female migrants who worked in Italian households after 1991. Over the past decade, she has conducted fieldwork and interviewed hundreds of Ukrainian migrants, as well as members of their transnational families, in various European countries, including Italy, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. She has received fellowships from the University of Zurich, the University of Gothenburg, and the University of Warsaw.

She currently works at Mid Sweden University and Vilnius University, and is also a lecturer at the Ukrainian Catholic University, where she teaches master’s-level courses on Ukrainian migration and social anthropology. Svitlana Odynets is also a researcher on a project about transnational caregiving in migrant families, where she is responsible for fieldwork and analyzing the experiences of people from Ukraine in Lithuania and Sweden.

During her research residency at the Center for Urban History, she will work on a book about Ukrainian female migration in independent Ukraine.
