A presentation of the book "Theirs/Ours: Cities and Villages in Ukrainian Literature and Culture" (monograph edited by Katarzyna Glinianowicz and Katarzyna Kotynska, publishing house Scriptum, Krakow, 2015) will be held.

Fifteen scholars from different branches in the humanities – representatives of academic centers of Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic – analyze the motives and images that are important for the study of the tension between village and city, characteristic in Ukrainian literature and culture. The authors inquire about the variability of the assessment of these environments (the "good," "beneficial" for Ukrainian identity city against the "bad," "destructive" village - and vice versa, depending on the historical period, social and political circumstances, etc.), the place and role of the city/village in literature, the reflection of urbanization processes in language and literature, the problems associated with them.

Working versions of the articles were submitted for discussion in May 2014 during a conference Theirs/Ours organized in Krakow by the Ukrainian department of the Institute of Slavic Studies at the Jagiellonian University in cooperation with the Center for Urban History.

The monograph was published as an electronic book.

The presentation will be led by Olena Galeta and Katarzyna Kotynska.
