Research Visit to McEwan University
11.11.2025
In October 2025, Center researcher Dr Natalia Otrishchenko was a visiting scholar at MаcEwan University in Edmonton, Canada. She came at the invitation of the Ukrainian Resource and Development Center and spent a month collaborating with the Department of Sociology.
During this research visit, Natalia developed a study on the perception of time during the war. She had the opportunity to work in the university library and discuss her ideas with colleagues. During Ukrainian Week and the Sociology Speaker Series, she spoke on the topic "From Rapid Response to a Longitudinal Study of War Experiences," discussing the Center’s documentary initiatives, including "24.02.22, 5 am: Testimonies from the War" and U-CORE. At the invitation of Dr. Jeffrey Stepnіsky, Natalia also joined his course on memory studies, where she presented her reflections on the experiences of Euromaidan and the Revolution of Dignity.
For Natalia, it was a time of active networking and getting to know the university community – Indigenous Centre kihêw waciston, the International Office, the Faculty of Arts and Science, the School of Continuing Education, as well as other friendly organizations in Edmonton: the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies and the Peter and Doris Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore. She was able to become acquainted with their collections and discuss the Centre’s research and educational work, as well as our unarchiving initiatives.
We are pleased to build connections with colleagues who support the Ukrainian academic community in every way, and we look forward to further cooperation.
