The call is open until September 20

We invite you to join the International Home Movie Day at the Center for Urban History!

From September 1 to September 20, you can bring your home movies on 8mm and 16mm films for digitization, and in October, you can watch them with your friends and family in the Center's conference hall.

The technique of filming on 8 mm and 16 mm film was widespread from the beginning of the twentieth century until the 1980s. It was developed not only by media or film industry professionals who preferred 35 mm film, but primarily by amateurs - people who were passionate about cinema, invention, thirsty for experimentation and technology, with a desire to record their own travels and entertainment, and with the ambition to make their own feature films. Your parents or grandparents may have owned a movie camera at different times in their lives, and by digitizing their films, you will discover the stories of your own family. Storing digital copies in the Urban Media Archive will make them available to historians, researchers of culture, everyday life, and visual heritage.

Usually, home movies exist in only one copy and require special equipment to be viewed, so digitization allows extending their life and makes them available for viewing and dissemination.

This will be the tenth time that the Center for Urban History has held the Home Movie Day. During this time, we have managed to collect and preserve a lot of materials not only from Lviv, but also from other cities of Ukraine and the world. Participants had the opportunity to restore their family memories and share them with their loved ones. In addition, the found private home movie archives became material for research, film making, and art projects.

We are waiting for you with the films at 6 Bohomoltsia Street from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00.

If you have any questions about digitization, please contact Anastasia Kholiavka by phone: 0975823023 or email a.kholyavka@lvivcenter.org.
