PhD researcher at the European University Institute in Florence. His thesis Provincial Perversions: Class, Ethnicity, and Cultures of Sexual Knowledge in Lviv and Galicia, 1885-1914 explores how a peripheral region of the Habsburg monarchy became a vibrant space of sexual knowledge production. Michał’s thesis focuses on populist intellectuals who investigated the sexual attitudes of the multi-ethnic Galician working class and formulated innovative ideas based on their observations. Lviv itself becomes a crucial point of focus in Michał’s work. In the rapidly growing city, rural-to-urban female migrants who made their living as domestic and sex workers symbolized social transformation on the eve of modernity. The Urban space became a site of thrilling explorations into the sexual underworld hidden behind the façade of respectability.

During his time at the Urban History Center in Lviv, Michał will work on integrating the material he gathered with the "Lviv Interactive" online-platform. He will also use the Center's resources to make final adjustments to his thesis. Finally, Michał plans to visit the city’s archives.
