Coline Maestracci is an FNRS Postdoctoral Fellow affiliated with the Centre d'Étude de la vie politique (CEVIPOL) at Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). She holds a PhD in political science from Université libre de Bruxelles.

Coline's PhD focused on the engagement and disengagement trajectories of Ukrainian volunteer combatants in the Russian war on Ukraine during the pre-full-scale invasion period. After completing her PhD, she did a postdoc at EHESS in Paris and obtained a Research fellowship at Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. She is now a postdoctoral researcher (FNRS-CR, Belgium) at Université libre de Bruxelles.

Her new research project is entitled The War in Ukraine Through The Prism of the Family Institution: For a Sociology of the Family at War. It focuses on the effects of war on Ukrainian families with an ethnographic approach. The central hypothesis of the project is that the study of the private sphere is crucial for understanding social upheavals in times of war. More broadly, the objective of this research is to contribute to the renewal of war studies in political science by highlighting the importance of studying the private sphere. Her methodology is an original combination of in-depth interviews, observations and artifact analysis.

During her residency at the Center for Urban History, Coline will collect new data for her new research project.
