September 26-28, 2013

Center for Urban History, Lviv

The first commemoration of the life and work of Ludwig von Mises was held in Lviv in September 2011. This international scientific gathering resulted in a published research compendium entitled "Economics and Bureaucracy in a Free Society", and saw the placing of a memorial plaque at the birthplace of the internationally-renowned economist and classical liberal. The event garnered significant international attention, and we are grateful to all who joined in honoring – in his native city – the memory of Ludwig von Mises.

Subsequently we have received repeated requests regarding further study and dissemination of the scientific legacy of Ludwig von Mises in the fatherland of his youth. We have accordingly determined to conduct bi-annual conferences devoted to contemporary questions in economics, politics, and government, and entitled "Ludwig von Mises and Modernity".

The Second International Conference – "Ludwig von Mises and Contemporary Societies: Economic Theory and Public Policy" was held at the premises of the Center for Urban History for East Central Europe.
