17.12.2011

The class for children (ages 8 – 10) in our "Home of My Dreams"
series took place on December 17, 2011. The "Home of My Dreams"
project is part of the "Home: A Century of Change" exhibition at the
Center.

"Home" is a concept
that children imbue with many meanings: the family and the building where they
live; the furniture and everyday surroundings. The "Home of My Dreams" program
intends to unfold existing knowledge, to encourage the children to think
analytically about the presented material, develop perspective, and try on the
role of creators of their own "dream homes." Instruction in the classes will
stress the ethical, aesthetic, artistic and cultural aspects of home. In light
of the audience’s age, the theoretical material will be presented accessibly in
diagrams, pictures and interactive classes. The topic of this week’s class was "Home: cottage, homestead, garden, house".

The residence is not merely a material
shell of closed space that includes many acquired things, which bring memories
of pleasant moments, but also a sort of fortress, a shelter from life’s disturbances,
and bad weather. It is only in our little house, our cabin, our homestead that
we feel most comfortable and protected. In learning to
perceive the world, children often draw a house, knowing that it is home to
people closest to them. A neat house is often the object of admiration, more so
with a garden around it. Therefore the saying "East, west – home is best"
remains pertinent.

The
three-hour class includes:

  • A lecture part, where the concept of "home" is examined
in various contexts (in a series of interactive games and an electronic
    presentation)
  • A viewing part, with a visit to the "Home: A Century of
Change" exhibition, and a screening of animated films, dedicated to the
    topic of home
  • An artistic part, where the children can realize their
creative potential, using artistic means to create their own "dream home"

Classes were taught by two teachers of the Spirograph Arts and Culture Studio:

Andrii Sendetskyi    Oleh Boliuk
