Academic archive of the State research institution "Encyclopaedic Publications" is a successor of the archives of the "Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopaedia." It started developing in the 1950s, after the third attempt to launch the publication of the Ukrainian language universal reference edition such as the 17-volume "Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopaedia" published in the 1960s. Website of the archives of the "Encyclopaedic Publications" ("E-archives of the USE") was designed to publish in free access the digitized materials of the institution’s archival collections.

The first stage to add content to the website was to digitize and post online the materials of the six volumes of a collective monograph "History of Ukrainian Art" as edited by
Mykola Bazhan. This stage was implemented with the support of the "Ukrainian Cultural Foundation" during 2019.

Documents made available for users include original manuscripts of the "History of Ukrainian Art" and illustration materials thereto, various versions of entries, including also censorship remarks. Authors represented in the collection include Mykola Bazhan, Fedir Shevchenko, Vasyl Kasiyan, Ivan Vorona, a.o.

During the presentation, participants will share about peculiarities of operation of an archival institution, its reference capacity, and difficulties in dealing with its documents.

Presentation participants: Serhiy Hirik, Candidate of History, senior research fellow at the State Research Institution "Encyclopaedic Publications"; Andriy Tyshchenko, junior research fellow at the State Research Institution "Encyclopaedic Publications".

Moderator: Oleksandr Makhanets, project coordinator at "Urban Media Archive", Center for Urban History.
