Natalia Yakovenko, Ph. D.
is Professor and Chair of History at the National University "Kyiv – Mohyla Academy," and editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian Humanities Review (published annually from 1998 onwards). She has written a book on the formation and social make-up of the Ukrainian gentry from the fourteenth throught the mid-seventeenth century (1993), published a collection of articles on the normative ideas and life strategies of the gentry and cossackdom in the same period (Paralelnyi svit, 2000), a History of Medieval and Early Modern Ukraine (first edition 1998, expanded edition 2002, four editions today), as well as An Introduction to History (2007) for students. Yakovenko has penned a number of articles on the topic of the "westernization" of the Ukrainian cultural space in "school" and elite Ukrainian culture of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
