We invite you to the Home Movie Day!
It's been a decade since the Center for Urban History first hosted the Home Movie Day in October!
With the first announcement and invitation to bring home video archives for digitization, we could not have imagined the response. As technology changes, films are neglected or even lost, and the media that would allow us to view the footage disappear. However, step by step, meeting by meeting, a whole world of home movies and amateur cinema emerged. Today, Urban Media Archive of the Center for Urban History has more than 100 collections of home and amateur films. These are materials by more than 70 authors, from Lviv to Luhansk, with the geography of filming in Ukraine and far beyond.
Archiving and digitizing home and amateur films is not a one-sided process. On the contrary, it is about close interaction with the owners of the collections, about seeing forgotten or found footage for the first time in a long time, about private stories about your own and your family's past. We invite you to watch these discoveries of the last ten years together! It will be a journey through time, through cities and villages, through experiments and memories from the authors and participants of the films, as well as archivists and researchers of the Center for Urban History.

Home Movie Day
A celebration of amateur films and cinema that takes place annually in October in many places around the world. Events on this day allow individuals and families to see and share their own home movies and stories. It is a chance to learn how and why these films and visual heritage in general should be preserved.
