In cooperation with the Ukrainian Catholic University, the Center held its first seminar in Urban History. The main purpose of this course, taught by Tarik Cyril Amar, was to acquaint students with a small but significant selection of major approaches to this discipline, while also paying attention to the underlying processes of social, economic, political and cultural transformations, which made and shaped cities. Students were encouraged to engage intellectually with various interpretations of the urban phenomenon, including readings largely situated within the paradigms of modernization (and its discontents), discourse approaches, and psychology, and to probe the limits of the field of urban history, be they geographical or cultural.
