This workshop brings together researchers of women's history from Ukraine and abroad to discuss the heuristic potential, characteristics, and challenges of using various historical primary sources for the study and teaching of women’s and gender history. The result will be a collection of educational materials (primary sources accompanied by analytical commentary and teaching modules) that explore various aspects of the historical experiences of Ukrainian women in the modern era. The project aims to combine research and educational goals by inviting participants, on the one hand, to share little-known historical documents (both textual and visual) and propose their own methodological approaches to processing and analyzing them from a gender studies perspective, and, on the other hand, to reflect on ways to use these materials in higher education. Subsequently, the authors' materials—properly organized and ready for use—will be published as open access on the Center for Urban History’s educational platform REESOURCES.

REESOURCES offers resources designed to decentralize curricula on the history of Eastern Europe by diversifying the sources used in teaching to stimulate discussions about established metanarratives about the region and to promote new approaches to its teaching and study. The platform is based on the principles of open access, historical inclusivity (considering peripheral and marginalized experiences), and critical interpretation of sources.

The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association for Women’s History Research and the Center for Urban History, with financial support from the Virtual Ukrainian Institute for Advanced Study.
