"Home of My Dreams"

The next class for children ages 8 - 10 in the "Home of My Dreams" series took place on February 4, 2012. "Home of My Dreams" is a project implemented as part of the "Home. A Century of Change" exhibition at the Center for Urban History.

"Home" is a concept that children imbue with many meanings: the family and the building where they live; the furniture and everyday surroundings. The "Home of My Dreams" program intends to unfold existing knowledge, to encourage the children to think analytically about the presented material, develop perspective, and try on the role of creators of their own "dream homes." Instruction in the classes will stress the ethical, aesthetic, artistic and cultural aspects of home. In light of the audience’s age, the theoretical material will be presented accessibly in diagrams, pictures and interactive classes.

This week's class focused on the topic of "Home: Housework and Home-related Professions." No matter, how comfortable and well-tended your apartment is, there will still be tasks to perform that cannot be classified as leisure. Cooking, cleaning and other duties of the residents of a home are all part of housework. Only handiwork (embroidery, knitting, crocheting, origami, etc.) and tending pets can be seen as leisure. There are also professions that are home-related, whether always, or in some cases. Among these are the architects, bricklayers, whitewashers, tilers, and others, involved in constructing a house; as well as those involved in its servicing and maintenance, such as plumbers, electricians, lift operators, etc. Less widespread are the professions of chambermaid, majordomo, tutor, gardener, or nanny.

The three-hour class includes:

• A lecture part, where the concept of "home" is examined in various contexts (in a series of interactive games and an electronic presentation)
• A viewing part, with a visit to the "Home: A Century of Change" exhibition, and a screening of animated films, dedicated to the topic of home
• An artistic part, where the children can realize their creative potential, using artistic means to create their own "dream home"

• February 11, 2012 (for children ages 6-7)
• February 18, 2012 (for children ages 8-10)

Classes will take place every Saturday from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm at the Conference Room of the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in Lviv at 6, Bohomoltsia St.

Participation in the program is free of charge.
