Public space "After the Silence", 6 Hrebinky St.

Double exposure is possible not only when working with photographic film, but also when shooting on film. It can occur accidentally, creating unexpected images and visual combinations, but it is also used as a conscious artistic technique.

We invite you to watch films shot on 8 mm and 16 mm film using this technique. The program includes a selection of works from the collections of the Urban Media Archive of the Center for Urban History, which demonstrate the possibilities of analog cinema and different approaches to working with images, and encourage reflection on the accidental, experimental, and creative in amateur filming. Since the discovery of photography, the double exposure has gone from a technical mistake to an artistic technique: it played an important role in the development of visual effects, experimental cinema, and contemporary digital images. This technique allowed us to get rid of the inherent realism of photography and opened up new possibilities for self-expression. It was used to create multi-layered images by both professionals and amateurs, as it did not require the use of sophisticated equipment.

The screening will take place within the framework of the public program for the exhibition "Plus Plus: Double Exposure" produced by the NGO "After Silence" with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, Kyiv-Ukraine Bureau, and the public program [unarchiving] of the Center for Urban History.
