During the Urban Seminar, Pavlo Khudish will present the draft of his project "Protecting and Sharing the Memory of the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma in Transcarpathia," that aims to digitize and utilize unexplored archival sources on this topic.
It will create a comprehensive digital portal holding numerous records culled from the state archives of the Transcarpathia region in Ukraine. The online platform will feature various content, including an archival database, images, thematic maps, glossaries, locations, and a chronological timeline. Furthermore, the platform will offer a comprehensive account of the wartime history of the Jews and Roma in Transcarpathia, as well as its contemporary relevance in terms of spatial, cultural, and political memory. The project team aim to find out what the Jewish experience was in different types of these places of imprisonment, how it differed spatially and chronologically; why perpetrators formed the places of imprisonment in particular ways; why some communities were deported not to the nearest "large ghetto," but hundreds of kilometers away; why neighboring communities could be deported to different larger ghettos.
