August 30 - September 3, 2014

Center for Urban History, Lviv

The fifth Week of Contemporary Art was held in Lviv.

The topic of this year’s event was "perceptionWars." The complex current situation in Ukraine prompted the organizers to make this year’s festival focus on conflicts in the media space and the personal perception of reality and to consider the problems and events that arise from this.

As part of the Week, the Center for Urban History was hosting lectures and panel discussions in the Center’s conference room.

The Program of Events at the Center for Urban History:

Panel Discussions

August 31, 7:00 p.m. - Topic 1: The Practice of Perception

Panelists: Vlodko Kaufman, Vita Susak, Zbigniew Sobchuk, Victor Lavnyi
Moderator: Rostyslav Hryvul

Perception as a medium, as a certain social nature, affects and sometimes determines our choice and us. Perception as a sign of danger and simultaneously a call for transgression. What place in the mental framework does individual perception have? How can individual perception overcome collective and mass perception?

Panelists: Stefan Lutschinger, Yanina Prudenko, Vasyl Rasevych
Moderator: Oleksandr Roitburd

The process of producing standardized models of perception is continuous. To what extent can this process of mental construction be managed and is it only a projection of seething in the collective muck of public life? Where and by whom are the boundaries of perception formed? In that way they can be legitimized? How can another perception be appropriated and what threats can this carry?

September 2, 7:00 p.m. - Topic 3: Mental and Media Body. The Experience of Perception

Panelists: Ryszard Kluszczynski, Olha Balashova, Olha Kotska
Moderator: Edvin Bendyk

Perception and media are similar – constant presence, construction, manifestation, and translation of meanings. To what extent does perception of life and experiences construct, affect the creation of our experience?

September 3, 7:00 p.m. - Topic 4: Before Perception

Panelists: Oleh Kryshtal, Andriy Bondarenko, Konstantyn Smolyaninov, Hlib Vysheslavsky
