A young couple next to the Adam Mickiewicz monument, the view from the northern side of the monument, from the fountain with a Virgin Mary figure. Around the monument tower Lombardy poplars, in the background are the buildings of Mickiewicz Square 11 and Halycka Square 15, on the corner of Shevchenko 1. It is a typical picture of the 1950’s to savor a memory. On the picture one notices the cobblestone which once covered Mickiewicz Square and all of Boulevard Svobody.

The monument to the national Polish poet was opened on 30 October 1904. Its construction was carried out from late 1903 under the supervision of Alfred Zachariewicz and Józef Sosnowski. The author of the project, who won an architectural competition, was Antoni Popiel, a famous sculptor. Earlier, there was a figure of the Virgin Mary on its place.
