Applications for participation in a long-term program of workshops dedicated to methodological challenges in teaching the modern period of European history through the prism of the experience of Ukraine and Eastern Europe are open until December 28. 

3 грудня о 18:30 запрошуємо на лекцію Драгана Куюнджича, що розгортатиметься навколо авторського фільму “Заморожений час, рідкі спогади” про погром євреїв та сербів у Нові-Саді. Стрічка стала відповіддю на фільм “Істер”, у центрі якого – семінар Мартіна Гайдеґґера 1942 року. Під час події звернемось до питань конструювання та вигадування національної та європейської топографії у філософії та літературі, написаній “після” Голокосту. Та поміркуємо про сучасну війну Росії проти України та про те, як Україна, будучи дунайською країною, йде проти течії гайдеґґерівського тлумачення Дунаю та Чорного моря через образ острова Зміїного. 

On December 3, at 18:30, we invite you to the lecture by Dragan Kujundžić which will focus on the film Frozen Time, Liquid Memories, about the Racija in Novi Sad. The film is a response to the movie The Ister, which centers on Martin Heidegger’s 1942 seminar. During the event, we will turn to the construction and invention of national and European topography in philosophy and literature written “after” the Holocaust. We will aslo reflect on Russia’s current war against Ukraine and how Ukraine, as a Danube country, goes against the tide of Heidegger’s interpretation of the Danube and the Black Sea. 

9 грудня о 16:00 відбудеться міський семінар за участі Ґенноли Інізан про дослідження житла у Маріуполі, яке класифікується як “безхазяйне”, хоча більшість його мешканців насправді були змушені тікати від війни та/або окупації або були вбиті. Дослідниця представить методологію (картографічний аналіз, дискурс та документальний аналіз), а також використані джерела: нормативні документи та списки житла від окупаційної адміністрації, звіти та огляди преси, окресливши як їхню цінність, так і їхні обмеження. 

On December 9, at 16:00 an Urban Seminar with Guénola Inizan will be held. The Seminar will be dedicated to the research of housing units in Mariupol that are classified as “ownerless,” although most of their residents were in fact forced to flee the war and/or the occupation or were killed. The researcher will present the methodology (cartographic analysis, discourse and documentary analysis), as well as the sources used: regulatory texts and housing lists from the occupying administration, reports, and press reviews, outlining both their value and their limitations.

11 грудня о 16:00 Надія Скобель представить на міському семінарі основні результати проєкту з оцифрування довоєнних даних про біорізноманіття України, їхнє значення для захисту наукової спадщини та роль у повоєнному  відновленні. Проєкт є прикладом того, як архівація наукових знань перетворюється на стратегічний інструмент захисту національної наукової спадщини та підґрунтя для її повоєнного відновлення.

On December 11, at 16:00, during the Urban Seminar Nadiia Skobel will outline the main results of the project to digitize pre-war data on Ukraine’s biodiversity, its importance for the protection of scientific heritage, and its role in post-war recovery. The project is an example of how the archiving of scientific knowledge is turning into a strategic tool for protecting the national scientific heritage and the basis for its post-war restoration.

У центрі уваги збірки есеїв та інтерв’ю – заломлення перспективи, (не-)матеріальність кордонів, нерівності та солідарності, практика переходу. Збірка продовжує цикл публікацій “Історії війни: серія про документування та архівування”, над яким спільно працюють команди програми Documenting Ukraine Інституту гуманітарних наук у Відні (IWM), Центру міської історії, INDEX: Інституту документування і взаємодії, Дослідницького Центру Україна Фонду Макса Вебера.

On December 18, at 18:30, we invite you to the presentation of the publication, Documenting War: Between Ukraine and the World, and the discussion with Inha Kozlova, Terrell Starr, Sasha Dovzhyk, and Natalia Otrishchenko. The collection of essays and interviews focuses on the refraction of perspective, the (in)materiality of borders, inequality and solidarity, and the practice of transition. Documenting the War continues the series of publications in the “Stories of War: A Series on Documentation and Archiving” cycle, which is a joint project of the Documenting Ukraine program of the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM), Center for Urban History, INDEX: Institute for Documentation and Exchange, and Research Centre Ukraine of the Max Weber Foundation.

Цієї осені дослідниця Центру Др-ка Наталя Отріщенко була гостьовою вченою в університеті МакЮена в Едмонтоні (Канада). Вона приїхала на запрошення Українського центру засобів і розвитку і провела місяць у співпраці з кафедрою соціології. Детальніше розповідаємо у новині на нашому сайті. 

This autumn, Center researcher Dr. Natalia Otrishchenko was a visiting scholar at MаcEwan University in Edmonton, Canada. She came at the invitation of the Ukrainian Resource and Development Center and spent a month collaborating with the Department of Sociology. Lear more on our website. 

Листопад 2025 року історикиня, дослідниця Центру Ліана Бліхарська провела у Коледжі імені Імре Кертеса Єнського університету ім. Фрідріха Шиллера, де вона працювала над своїм дисертаційним дослідженням “Інтелектуальна біографія Івана Крип’якевича (1886-1967)”.

In November 2025, Liana Blikharska, a historian and researcher at the Center, spent a month at the Imre Kertész College at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where she had the opportunity to work on her dissertation research “An Intellectual Biography of Ivan Krypiakevych (1886-1967.”

У 2024-2025 роках Міський медіаархів Центру міської історії у співпраці з Львівським будинком культури  Українського товариства глухих оцифрував 114 кіноплівок доробок Народної студії “Каменяр”, що діяла у Львові з середини 1960-х років. У листопаді ми мали можливість переглянути частину оцифрованих плівок разом із членами Будинку культури УТОГу. 

In 2024-2025, the Urban Media Archive of the Center for Urban History, in cooperation with the Lviv House of Culture of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf, digitized 114 films from the “Kamenyar” People’s Studio, which operated in Lviv since the mid-1960s. This November, we had a chance to watch some digitized films and discuss them together with members of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf. 

Географиня, спеціалізується на міській та соціальній географії. Її дослідження зосереджені на питаннях дому, житла, житлових траєкторій, знесення та містобудівної політики. В Інституті регіональної географії імені Лейбніца в Лейпцигу (Німеччина) бере участь у проєкті “Окуповані та стерті. Історії втрачених домівок України”. Під час дослідницької резиденції у Центрі Генола продовжить дослідження конфіскації житла на тимчасово окупованих територіях України. 

She is a geographer specializing in urban and social geography. Her research focuses on issues of home, housing, residential trajectories, demolition, and urban planning policies. She is part of the project Occupied and Erased. Stories of Ukraine’s Lost Homes at the Geography Department at the University of Łódź and the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig (Germany). During her residency at the Center, Guénola will continue her study of housing property seizures in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
