The initial step

Dr. Harald Binder signed the foundation charter under its initial name "Center for History and Culture of the City of Lviv". The site chosen for the solemn act was – not untypical for Vienna – a coffee house: "Café Central", a historic place where Lenin and Trotski once reflected on the world revolution.

Even with the ambitions not quite as high, the members of the foundation board – beside Harald Binder Professor Andreas Kappeler (University of Vienna) and Reinhard Schmid-Grimburg (Raiffeisen-Invest, Vienna) – nevertheless lifted their cups in the name of the new-born institution.
