March 7, 2018 Cinematic Visions. Los Angeles On March 7, at 6.30 pm, we offer a screening of a documentary "Los Angeles Plays Itself." The film reveals various images and interpretations of "the most photographed city in the world" in modern US cinema and shows how these images can often become manipulative. Read more
March 12, 2018 Neo-baroque in Lviv On March 12, at 6.30 pm, Yuriy Biriulov will have a lecture on Lviv architect of Czech origin, Karel Boublik famous his designs for the Big Regional Exhibition of 1894, and of residential houses of the early 20th century. Read more
March 15, 2018 Creativity for the City On March 15, at 6.30 pm, welcome to a talk with the Dutch urbanist Evert Verhagen. He will share his experience of implementing projects on revitalization of urban public spaces. The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss opportunities and threats offered by the creative economy, and the need to consider local contexts. Read more
March 16, 2018 Interwar Photography On March 16, at 6 pm, Adam Sobota will tell about the development of photography in Lviv between the WWI and WW2. He will mention the environments it helped create, and how it was expressed on artistic, academic, amateur, and documentary levels. The lecture will be followed by the opening of the exhibition by Andrij Bojarov "COPY/PAST". Read more
March 21, 2018 Ethnography of a Monotown On March 21, at 4 pm, at the urban seminar, the Center’s scholarship fellow Justyna Szymanska will be presenting her research on Kramatorsk as an illustration to apply an anthropological approach to lifestyles and civic agency in mono-industrial cities. She will focus on the interaction of different models of civic activism and forms of democratization in post-Soviet context. Read more
April 23, 2018 (Re)making a Story On April 23, a one-day workshop will take place, on how to address oral histories. The workshop’s objective is to show opportunities for cooperation between oral history in its academic and artistic aspects, as illustrated by a collection from the Urban Media Archive - "Theaters of Lviv after 1945." March 23, 2018 The Anti-Imperial Choice On March 23, at 4 pm, the Center’s library will host Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern to present the Ukrainian translation of his book "The Anti-Imperial Choice: the Making of the Ukrainian Jew". The author offers cases of five writers who have been raised mostly in Yiddish-speaking and Russian-speaking environment and later came to the Ukrainian literature. Read more
March 28, 2018 Lviv Interactive. Upgrade On March 28, at 6.30 pm, there will be a presentation of the upgraded version of a digital encyclopedia Lviv Interactive. We changed the structure of materials and the visual language, added new functions for search and display of results. It will make it easier to search for specific stories and broader historical contexts. Read more
